Amazing Grace

Addition to the last blog post I want to talk more about the Amazing Grace.

Amazing Grace is very special songs that even it is church song, it was on the top 10 of the billboard. Also, it is used in movies, TV series, and even in radio.

Looking more deeply at the Amazing Grace there are slight difference of meaning of the song between the nationality and the race of the people.

In the class we discuss that lots of African American people tend to like the 3rd verse of the lyrics; 3rd verse is "I have already come; Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home". This phrase can be referring to the African American people's history and the joy to the transformation that slowly the world is making.

In the contrary, American people tend to like first verse "That sav'd a wretch like me! I one was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now see". This verse metaphor is used, for instance ''lost" and "found" can be used for literally lost and found for place and things, but in this phrase it is used for saving the persons heart.

  1. Hey! Thanks for sharing what different people think about the lyrics. The first time I heard Amazing Grace by Hayley Westenra in public event was last summer, on the opening ceremony of the World Game in Taiwan. (here's the link of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YTuoteSx3w)

I personally like the whole song, because every time when I listen to it, it could calm my nerves and relieve my stress...:)

  2. The story of the song is a remarkable one. Thanks for posting the Judy Collins video. My parents used to listen to her music when I was young. She has the most amazing voice.

I also think she has the voice every wan to listen again!

Also, I think the combination of the Amazing Grace and Judy Collins made the song more strong and present.
